Cabbage-These were planted in November and we've been eating them for a month or so. My favorite way to fix cabbage is to melt a half stick of butter in my big skillet and add a couple of my sweet onions cooking these about 10 minutes then add the cut up cabbage, (no water) and cook another 20 minutes or so. Sweet!
Tomato-I start seeds at the end of December. These were put out in the garden three weeks ago, and have tripled in size with the warm weather and rain we've had recently.
Larkspur-These reseed for me every year, so I don't have to replant them. If I want them in a new area the following spring, I wait until the seed pods have ripened, and shake them over the area.
We live on 8 acres of land in Alachua County Florida. We began in a single wide mobile home on land with more weeds than grass, more sand than soil. The trees-oaks, sweetgum, hickory, pines, and magnolias were beautiful and we began planting azaleas and camillias around these. We also turned a boggy area into a 1/2 acre pond as well as adding a couple of small ponds for waterlilies. A vegetable garden was started the first year and has provided us with most of our produce. We finished building our house and moved in June of '96. We continue to plant and grow and enjoy life on this bit of earth that owns us.
